Like the icing on the cake. Themed tour

Let’s set out together in search of clues and see where the roots of common idioms can be found! Idioms are fixed expressions or figures of speech used in everyday language, which are often figurative or metaphorical. They lend colour, expressiveness and creativity to the language. Many of them have their origins in historical or cultural references and are passed down through the generations.

Salt, which is closely associated with Hall, has given us no fewer than three idioms in this regard: “Like salt in soup”, “to spoil someone’s soup” or “to begrudge someone the salt in their soup” and we’ll discover many more amusing and interesting idioms on this tour through the medieval old town of Hall in Tyrol.

This guided tour is part of our weekly programme

Time and again, visitors to the Hall-Wattens region can take part in the Summer Weeks Programme or the Winter Weeks Programme and take part in the themed guided tour “Wie das Salz in der Suppe” in Hall in Tirol.

This walk through Tyrol’s largest old town is both entertaining and fascinating. Idioms still in common use today serve as bridges to the past: to be “like salt in the soup”, to “scrape the bend”, to “kick the bucket”, to “take up the cudgels”, etc. Experience the town’s history in a different light. Exciting for young and old alike!
