The Sagen via ferrata on the Glungezer. Press release

On Austria’s first ‘Sagen’ via ferrata on the Glungezer, you can enjoy views of over 400 Alpine peaks whilst immersing yourself in the magical world of legends and fairy tales set in the mountains.

The Hall in Tirol Alpine Club has renovated the existing via ferrata on the Glungezer along the original route and significantly extended it. Various levels of difficulty have been incorporated into the boulder terrain – ranging from easy (‘Category A’) to difficult (‘Category C’), the route features all manner of challenges, including short and long steep ascents, ridge intersections and a chimney passage. A leaflet is available for children, telling the legend of the Glungezer Giant. The highlight of the via ferrata is a rope bridge with a designated photo spot offering breathtaking views of the Karwendel Mountains opposite.
The via ferrata starts above Lake Zirbensee on the Glungezer. The 400-metre ascent takes a total of 2.5 hours. Ten minutes from the finish is the Glungezerhütte at 2,610 metres above sea level, which is the perfect place to stop for refreshments, relax and take in the impressive mountain scenery.
