The Miracle of Wörgl. Filming

The Miracle of Wörgl (working title: The Money Maker) is a 2018 Austrian feature film directed by Urs Egger and starring Karl Markovics. Filming took place from 25 September to 30 October 2017. As well as various locations in Tyrol, filming also took place in the old town of Hall in Tirol.

The film tells a story based on true events in Tyrol in 1932, centring on the ‘Miracle of Wörgl’. As National Socialism was gaining ground, Wörgl was facing bankruptcy. Mayor Michael Unterguggenberger (Karl Markovics) managed to lead the municipality to prosperity by introducing a so-called ‘depreciating currency’ with guaranteed circulation, and to reduce unemployment to virtually zero.
