The Grüninger File. Film shoot

The feature film “Akte Grüninger” chronicles the life of a true hero. Paul Grüniger saved the lives of numerous people during the Nazi era. Although the Swiss border had been closed to refugees for around half a year, hundreds of people continued to enter the country without a valid visa, particularly in the border region with Germany and Austria, which Hitler had “brought back home”.
The film was released in cinemas on 31 January 2014. Although it was filmed mainly in Switzerland and along the border, scenes from Hall in Tirol can also be seen. To be more precise, filming took place at the following locations in the town: Stiftsplatz, Hall Primary School and Münzergasse. “The Grüninger File – The Story of a Border Guard” is a moving drama that tells the true story of Paul Grüninger. Grüninger was a Swiss police commander who acted courageously during the Second World War. Despite Switzerland’s strict policy of neutrality, he saved hundreds of Jewish refugees by allowing them to enter Switzerland illegally. The film depicts the moral dilemmas and personal sacrifices faced by Grüninger, who was ultimately ostracised both professionally and socially for his actions. This emotional narrative offers deep insights into human courage and compassion in times of extreme challenge.
