Blog. s'Unikat Café in Gnadenwald

Idyllic country-house charm nestled within the Karwendel Nature Park

Just like in the Far North: the décor at s’Unikat Café

When it comes to interior design, s’Unikat is pretty much the cosiest café in the region that I know of. I like the mix of different, yet still natural, styles. Quite often I felt as though I were in the far north. The Unikat comes quite close to the cosy cafés in Iceland or Sweden. You can tell straight away that it’s been furnished with passion. The owner’s two daughters tell us that many of the pieces of furniture and rustic objects were already there. Their grandfather originally ran a distillery on these premises. The mother bought other treasures second-hand and has lovingly brought them all together. The Unikat Café is certainly very personal and run with great attention to detail.

All about the s'Unikat Café

When the weather is fine, the outdoor area is a paradise for children and relaxed parents :-). As well as the animals, which are of course always a big draw, there’s a small playground. The terrace and garden are also very cosily designed. The handmade clay creations add wonderful splashes of colour. Time and again, you’ll find absolutely delightful decorative touches. The view of the green pastures, the grazing animals and the imposing mountain scenery of the Karwendel Nature Park complement the undisturbed pleasure of enjoying a coffee in the sun, as the children are completely absorbed in their play. There’s certainly plenty of space to run about in the garden. By the way, art and craft materials are also provided for children.

Cuisine at s'Unikat Café

We went there for breakfast and I have to say: from the coffee cup to the water carafe and right down to the little bowls, the table setting was simply delightful. And the breakfast itself left nothing to be desired. There was a plentiful selection of fresh and varied bread rolls, wonderful spreads, a selection of cheeses and cold cuts, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. The jams were homemade and everything was beautifully garnished with little flowers. A feast for the eyes in its own right.

A hidden gem for brunch with friends or family gatherings

If you’re looking for a lovely break with the family, the s’Unikat Café in Gnadenwald is just the place for you. It’s also the perfect setting for breakfast or brunch with friends, or for celebrating Grandma’s birthday. In winter, this special spot must be really cosy: we’ll definitely be back on a sunny, snow-covered winter’s day to sample the homemade mulled wine or punch, whilst a cosy fire crackles away in the old stove outside.

Countless ways to enjoy the surrounding countryside

Whether you stop off at s’Unikat before your afternoon coffee or after breakfast, there are plenty of nearby options for recharging your batteries amidst the wonderful scenery of the Karwendel Nature Park. Afterwards, we drove with the children to the nearby Fallbach Waterfall and rounded off the day by the stream.

As part of the weekly programme for the Hall-Wattens region, there are some interesting events taking place in Gnadenwald. In summer herb walksand in winter snowshoe walks. Definitely worth a go!
