The 700-year-old town is located 10 km east of Innsbruck and was the largest and most significant town in North Tyrol during the Middle Ages. Rich salt deposits allowed the town to flourish as early as the 13th century. When in the 15th century the princely mint from Meran in South Tyrol was moved to Hall, the importance of the town grew further. In the year 1486, the first thaler in the world was minted in Hall.
At the center of the old town is one of the most beautiful squares in Austria, the Upper Town Square. Noteworthy are the late Gothic parish church of St. Nicholas, the town hall, and the Magdalene Chapel.
Every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday at 11:30 AM, you can visit the Haller Mining Museum with a guided tour. It is located in the former Prince's House of Ferdinand II and gives visitors the feeling of being a real miner underground, allowing them to immerse themselves in the golden age of the seven-hundred-year history of Haller mining. On three exclusive dates, the tourism association offers the opportunity to enjoy Hall from a bird's-eye view in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Münze Hall Museum. During a tour lasting about an hour, we ascend the Haller landmark, the Münzerturm, and enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the Inn Valley and Karwendel. The history of the world's first thaler and an overview of Hall's centuries-old city history complete the tour, which ends at the Upper Town Square, in the heart of the Haller Old Town.
