A special tradition during the Christmas season in Tyrol and the Alpine region is "smudging" or as they beautifully say in the dialect "rachign gian". These twelve holy nights have a particularly strong attraction for people. Many of us know the sayings at Christmas or New Year's like "Don't wash laundry or hang it out to dry" or "keep the wheels still". But what exactly does it mean? Accordingly, the Hall-Wattens tourism association offers a very special tour on this topic.

The 700-year-old town is located 10 km east of Innsbruck and was the largest and most significant town in North Tyrol during the Middle Ages. Rich salt deposits allowed the town to flourish as early as the 13th century. When in the 15th century the princely mint from Meran in South Tyrol was moved to Hall, the importance of the town grew further. In the year 1486, the first thaler in the world was minted in Hall.

At the center of the old town is one of the most beautiful squares in Austria, the Upper Town Square. Noteworthy are the late Gothic parish church of St. Nicholas, the town hall, and the Magdalene Chapel.

Every Friday at 5:00 PM, guests from the Hall-Wattens region can participate in the weekly program of the tavern tour "Prost & Mahlzeit" in Hall in Tyrol.

A culinary tour of a special kind is offered by the new themed city tour of the TVB Hall-Wattens. Austrian guide Mag. Katharina Nagy has thoroughly studied the centuries-old tradition of the tavern in Hall and designed a captivating route through Hall's charming alleys. This new walk takes you through Tyrol's largest old town and provides insight into its fascinating house stories, offers anecdotes and interesting facts about food and drink. Enjoy, cheers!

An exciting themed tour: In the medieval mining and trading town of Hall, bakers, millers, and butchers played a central role in supplying the population. Even today, street names inside and outside the city walls remind us of blacksmiths and wagon makers, locksmiths, tanners, and coopers.
