The summer open-air concerts held across the region are a living tradition and offer a glimpse into authentic village life. Making music, particularly in brass bands, is one of the Tyroleans’ favourite leisure activities. Many spend their free time in music societies.
Every village has its own music and brass band, its own charm, its own traditional costume and its own concerts.
You can experience living tradition first-hand at one of the regular evening concerts given by the local bands. Without the enthusiasm of the many musicians, these events would not be possible. This appreciation of music is passed on even to the youngest children, which is why many of the members have been involved since their childhood.
During the colder months, they get together weekly to make music, rehearse and decide which new pieces will be performed for guests and locals on balmy summer nights. From as early as April, you can see them proudly parading through the villages in the evenings, dressed in their traditional costumes and carrying their instruments, on their way to the concert venue. Almost every village has built its own bandstand in a prominent location especially for these special events. The nine local brass bands perform pieces of music weekly as part of a concert. The extensive programme put on by the individual groups invites you to linger and is, without a doubt, a highlight for all lovers of brass band music.
It is quite natural here for locals and visitors to come together and socialise.
