K2 – The Italian Mountain. Filming
The Austrian star director Robert Dornhelm, although not a mountaineer himself, turned this into a visually stunning, emotionally powerful film about ambition, courage and the will to survive, and presented his Italian lead actors, Marco Bocci and Massimo Poggio – who were also inexperienced in the Alps – with major challenges during filming. For eight weeks (February to April 2012), the Italian-Austrian co-production was filmed in and around the Hall-Wattens region, the courtyards of Hasegg Castle served as the camp, whilst the Hafelekar provided the backdrop for K2, situated on the border between Pakistan and China.
