Mining Museum. Hall in Tirol

The Hall in Tirol Mining Museum is situated in the heart of Hall’s old town. The tunnel, modelled on the salt mines in the Hall Valley, offers visitors an informative insight into the history of salt extraction. The mine and its tunnels in the Hall Valley have been closed since 1967. Salt is no longer mined here. Nevertheless, the man-made tunnel in Hall in Tirol’s old town allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of mining. Shafts, tools, minerals, a slide and much more give you the feeling of being “underground” yourself. Good luck!

“White gold”, as salt is often called due to its enormous value in days gone by, was one of the key factors that brought immense wealth to Hall in Tirol (formerly Solbad Hall). Nine kilometres north of the town, in the so-called Hall Valley, salt was mined from around 1244 until 1967.

The Mining Museum can only be visited as part of a guided tour (approx. 1 hour). Regular guided tours are offered all year round. Every Monday, Thursday and Saturday, you can join the guided tour “In the Beginning Was Salt” at the Mining Museum without prior booking. Group tours are available by prior arrangement.
