Business hotels. List of criteria
There are mandatory criteria, which all must be met, and optional criteria, of which at least 75 per cent (at least 27 out of 37 criteria) must be met. In individual cases, there are alternatives for meeting the relevant criteria.
Mandatory criteria
- Mobile phone coverage on the major networks must be guaranteed in public areas and in hotel rooms (T-Mobile, Drei, A1, Vodafone, E-Plus).
- The hotel accepts VISA and MasterCard.
- Each room must have a work surface with a clear area of at least 0.8m x 0.5m. The lighting for this work surface must be adequate (at least 500 lux) and at least one additional free socket must be available.
- Wi-Fi internet access must be provided in the hotel’s public areas. It must be possible to establish an internet connection via ISDN, Wi-Fi, DSL or similar within the hotel.
- Parking facilities must be accessible 24 hours a day and must not be less than 20 per cent of the number of rooms.
- In addition to the breakfast buffet, there must be a basic breakfast option or an à la carte choice.
- When invoicing, the hotel guest’s preferences and requirements must be taken into account, including those relating to the relevant company’s travel policy.
- A meeting room is available.
- In-room safes are provided for the safekeeping of important documents, laptops, etc.
- The hotel room doors are fitted with a security lock (card system or security cylinder).
'Can' criteria
- The hotel provides a clearly structured map showing how to get there, including sat-nav coordinates, the exact address and a brief description with images and text.
- There must be a place to park directly in front of the hotel so that luggage can be loaded and unloaded.
- Mattresses must not be more than 8 years old and must be cleaned every six months or kept hygienic by using appropriate protective covers.
- A public bar/room/lounge/lobby is provided, where business travellers can access a drinks service.
- A lift must be available for hotels with three storeys or more.
- Concierge services such as restaurant bookings, taxi bookings and similar are offered.
- Business travellers can request a luggage service at any time.
- The hotel provides at least one national daily newspaper and at least one business magazine.
- A shoe-shining service is provided (a shoe-shining machine is sufficient).
- The hotel must provide a laundry service with flexible operating hours.
- An ironing service is provided (alternatively, there is an ironing station in the room).
- Business travellers must be provided with access to a photocopier they can operate themselves, as well as a fax machine for sending and receiving confidential documents.
- Guests can collect toothbrushes, deodorant, disposable razors, combs, sewing kits and toiletries for women from reception.
- At least one English-speaking member of staff must be on duty at reception at all times.
- Any costs incurred at the hotel must be chargeable to the room bill (restaurant, bar, spa, car park, etc.).
- The hotel guarantees the immediate transmission of messages via electronic systems (e.g. telephone system, television) or a corresponding form, as well as the discreet and confidential handling of these documents or messages.
- The wake-up service (in person, by telephone or programmable via the TV) must be reliable.
- Catering comprising at least 2 hot and 4 cold dishes is provided between 11:00 and 23:00.
- Room service is available from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm.
- At least three different soft drinks and water must be available in the minibar.
- More than 50 per cent of the rooms on offer must be non-smoking and clearly marked as such.
- The rooms must have undergone a soft refurbishment (carpeting, paint or wallpaper on walls and ceilings) within the last eight years.
- The hotel room must be at least 14 m².
- Guests must be able to open the windows in the hotel room (a tilt position is sufficient).
- An evacuation plan with instructions in the event of a fire must be displayed on the inside of the hotel room door or on the wall immediately adjacent to it.
- All rooms are equipped with direct-dial telephones.
- There must be sockets at the desk and at least one further easily accessible socket. The hotel must provide multi-socket adaptors.
- Each room contains a detailed, clearly structured ‘A–Z Guide’ containing emergency numbers, information on additional services, the tourist board’s weekly programme, details of the guest card, and up-to-date, comprehensive information about the hotel and its surroundings.
- A notepad and pen are available in every room.
- There is a facility for hanging up a clothes bag (with a capacity of at least 20kg).
- In addition to standard clothes hangers, there are also skirt and trouser hangers.
- A full-length mirror is provided in every hotel room.
- Standard toiletries (shampoo, shower gel) are provided free of charge in all rooms.
- Every bathroom has a shaving/make-up mirror.
- There is a hairdryer in every bathroom.
- Two towels (1 face towel, 1 bath towel) are provided for each guest.
- The hotel provides hypoallergenic pillows and duvets.
