Baumkirchen. In Tyrol
Its sunny location on a small hill overlooking the Inn Valley made this little village a popular settlement as far back as the Bronze Age. And even today, residents benefit from this special location: numerous hiking trails and mountain walks start ‘on the doorstep’, and there are many vantage points from which to enjoy the view over the Inn Valley. The 12 springs that made Baumkirchen a popular spa resort in the 16th century were, unfortunately, buried by earthquakes. Today, the lush meadows and woods surrounding this cosy village invite you to relax on long walks and enjoy nature.
Sports enthusiasts are spoilt for choice: the nearby Baumkirchener Forest offers a wide range of hiking opportunities. Further hiking trails lead to the neighbouring village of Fritzens and up onto the plateau around Gnadenwald. Nordic walkers and runners have direct access to the extensive network of trails, which also runs through the wild and romantic Baumkirchnertal valley. One of the annual sporting highlights is the Solstice Run. And for cyclists, the Inn Cycle Route, for example, is just a few “laps” away.
