Inntal Valley. Mountain Trail

The “Inntaler Höhenweg 2000” follows the 2,000-metre contour line high above the Inn Valley for six days as it heads east, from the Patscherkofel to the Kellerjoch – and back again. At altitudes between 1,800 and 2,800 metres, the “Inntaler” winds its way through the largely unspoilt, secluded mountain landscape of the Tux Alps. No luggage transport is provided on this long-distance walking route! The high-altitude trail is a fantastic, scenic long-distance hike for “peak baggers”, mostly above the tree line, with frequent stunning views down into the valley and an unrivalled mountain panorama of the Karwendel and the Zillertal Alps.

Tour description

From Innsbruck/Igls, the route takes you over the Patscherkofel along the Zirbenweg to the Glungezer Hut (2,610 m), then along the “Glungezer & Geier” ridge route via the “Seven Tuxer Summits” to the Lizumer Hut (2,019 m). From here, the ‘Inntaler’ route follows the Zentralalpenweg 02A over the Grafennsjoch to the Weidener Hut, and from there over the Nurpensjoch to the Rastkogel Hut (2,117 m), on to Hochfügen and over the Loassattel to the Kellerjoch Hut, with a descent to Schwaz.
The ‘Inntaler’ runs through the Patscherkofel–Zirmberg–Viggartal landscape conservation area, above the Blue Lakes, and passes through the Voldertal, Navistal, Wattental, Nafing and Nurpen valleys, the Sidantal and the Finsinggrund. The Patscherkofel and the mountain range continuing eastwards to Glungezer offer beautiful views across the Inn Valley towards the Nordkette and the Karwendel, and southwards towards the Central Alps. In the central section of the route, between the Naviser Jöchl and the Grafennsjoch, there are magnificent views of the ‘Zillertal mountains’. From the Kellerjoch, the panoramic view stretches towards Innsbruck, into the Zillertal and the Karwendel. Wonderful flora and fauna are constant companions along the way.
