The Absam via ferrata provides a new method of reaching the Bettelwurfhütte alpine hut
Experience of alpine climbing and good physical fitness are required for the Absam via ferrata, which provides an exceptional climbing experience starting from the Halltal Valley in the Karwendel mountains.
The Absam via ferrata – this new via ferrata in the Karwendel mountains covers an impressive route with spectacular views, with the ultimate goal of reaching the Bettelwurfhütte alpine hut. This new and physically demanding ascent to the Bettelwurfhütte alpine hut is an added bonus and challenge for all keen climbers. It combines with the existing routes, some of which are secured with ropes, to create a high alpine tour of the Großer and Kleiner Bettelwurf. The extreme location of the Bettelwurfhütte alpine hut is greatly enhanced by its role as a base for hikers and mountaineers. Day-trippers and overnight guests alike can expect a friendly reception with excellent hospitality in a genuine traditional alpine hut. Stunning views down the mountain and seemingly endless vistas as far as the eye can see are just a few more reasons for paying a visit, which is bound to leave you wanting more. After careful planning, which took account of all relevant conservation issues and governmental procedures, the Absam via ferrata was approved in 2010 and constructed in 2011 in accordance with current via ferrata guidelines.
Getting here: There is a large car park at the entrance to the Halltal Valley. The valley is now only accessible on foot. Follow the path over the Bettelwurfeck to the 2nd Ladhütte hut. Here the path continues to the right over the stream. Turn off route no. 222 after approximately 50 m and continue hiking for approximately 20 minutes to the start of the via ferrata.
The via ferrata may only be used from 1 May to 1 November!
The via ferrata measures 1,300 linear metres in length and covers an altitude of 600 m. The difficulty rating is A and B in most places, with some difficult passages rated C. A crux with a difficulty rating of C is located just after the entrance and before the clamping block. Anyone who experiences difficulties should return to route no. 222 and ascend to the alpine hut this way. In addition to the challenging climb over ledges, along cracks, through canyons, over clamping blocks and up chimneys, the via ferrata also provides magnificent viewpoints with views of the Halltal Valley and Absam. Climbers can take a break on the Köpfl to enjoy the views before scaling the final wall after hiking along the ridge. The exit skirts an area of mountain pines, crosses the goods cable lift and leads to the Bettelwurfhütte alpine hut. It takes approximately 1 hour. This via ferrata is a very challenging climb, covering a total altitude of 1,000 m and taking 4.5 hours to complete. In addition to possessing the relevant skills, climbers must also be extremely fit. They must also use the correct equipment. We also recommend that they plan their trip in detail beforehand. They should bring plenty of drinks and provisions.
