World Tourist Guide Day 2023. Press release

“It’s always a pleasure to see, year after year, how many visitors from North and South Tyrol, Bavaria and Vorarlberg make their way here, take an interest in Tyrolean history and join in with such enthusiasm, come rain or shine! Guided tours that focus on specific themes are particularly popular, especially amongst locals who already have a basic understanding of the subject. Incorporating historical phrases into the town’s history, for example, and bringing them to life with all sorts of artefacts, is particularly entertaining for children and families and makes history come alive. Taking a stroll to the Untere Lend, the former terminus of Tyrolean river shipping, brings bygone eras to life right there on the spot and encourages us to look beyond the obvious. Exploring disasters such as earthquakes, the plague and conflagrations over the centuries has become a particularly popular topic, especially since the coronavirus pandemic. Following in the footsteps of our ‘sinful Eve’ to explore the world’s oldest profession has now become a perennial favourite. The special guided tour of the Karlskirche in Volder opened up a Baroque gem in our neighbouring municipality – a rare opportunity to explore this building of great cultural and art-historical significance with a profound expert and trainer of Tyrolean tour guides, Mr Anton Prock. All this and much more was on offer at World Tourist Guide Day 2023, which once again attracted culture-loving visitors to our region this year, despite the freezing temperatures. For the first time, our team of austriaguides (certified tour guides) even included native speakers who guided visitors through Hall in French and Italian, thereby demonstrating a core competence of the austriaguides. “A holiday feeling on your doorstep, so to speak!” said Anita Töchterle-Graber from the Hall-Wattens Tourist Board.

Once again this year, the proceeds will go to the ‘Licht ins Dunkel’ charity and ‘Soforthilfe Tirol’. This year, the funds will go to a family from Kufstein. A single mother of two children aged 7 and 13, whose older son suffers from Dandy-Walker syndrome, is to receive help as soon as possible. The donations will help fund the construction of an accessible bathroom.
