Autumn walking. Press release

Colourful autumn foliage, a brilliant blue sky, traditional autumn festivals and perfect walking weather with pleasant temperatures: this is autumn in the Hall-Wattens region. Do you have moments that you’d love to capture? Arriving at a special vantage point. Breathing in the crisp, refreshing mountain air and letting your gaze wander over the autumnal landscape. Autumn offers wonderful hikes in perfect hiking weather, as well as traditional festivals during the cattle drives or at the spectacular medieval festival ‘Freudenfeuer’ in the old town of Hall in Tirol.

Special activity programmes such as ‘Nature Watch’ in the Halltal valley, a themed walk entitled ‘From Blossom to Honey’, or a hike to the Romedikirchl place of power in Thaur offer plenty of variety and a wide range of opportunities to experience the Hall-Wattens holiday region at its best. These take place every week as part of the region’s weekly programme.

Blue lakes and the joy of summiting

A special walking tour takes you into the ‘Oberes Viggartal’ landscape conservation area. You can easily reach Tulfes by bus; from there, take the Glungezerbahn cable car up to the Tulfeinalm. From the Glungezer, walk to the ‘G’schriebenen Stoan’, an ancient rock face bearing mysterious inscriptions, and on to the fantastic Blue Lakes – small, crystal-clear mountain lakes offering a view that is second to none.
On the other side of the valley, take the bus to the entrance to the Halltal valley at Absam. This is the starting point for the “Historic Salt Trail”, where you can follow in the footsteps of the historic miners as you hike into the Halltal valley, as well as the summit hike to the 2,726-metre-high Bettelwurf, which has been named one of the 150 most beautiful mountain peaks due to its extraordinary character.

Autumn sunrise walk

There is hardly a more impressive natural experience than watching the sun rise on a mountain. Autumn is a particularly convenient time to enjoy this, as you can set off a little later without any worries. As you climb, dawn breaks on the horizon and, once you reach the summit, the sun finally bursts forth with the first gentle rays of the day, bathing the breathtaking mountain landscape in radiant light. An unforgettable moment.
The moderately easy hike up the Hochmahdkopf in the Karwendel, for example, is ideal for a sunrise hike in autumn. After a hike of around two hours, you’ll find yourself on this summit at 1,715 metres above sea level. From here, you’ll have a perfect view of the sunrise behind the Tux Alps. You can then enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the descent at the Alpengasthof St. Magdalena.
