New Schartenkogel lift on the Glungezer | Winter 2026

The ageing Schartenkogel lift was well known to everyone: it offered a stunning view, but it was often windy and cold as you chugged your way up to the Schartenkogel.
In the coming winter season, this old lift will be replaced by a new, heated six-seater chairlift. Construction of the new Schartenkogel lift in the Glungezerbahn ski area has been in full swing since May. You can find all the latest news and photos from the building site here.

As a co-owner, the municipality of Tulfes is contributing to the financing of the project. The Glungezerbahn is contributing to the new construction from its own funds, and it is also hoping for support from the surrounding municipalities and the provincial government.

With the planned heated six-seater chairlift with a canopy, there will in future be 24 instead of 23 kilometres of slopes at the Glungezer.

The new lift will secure the future of the Glungezerbahn ski and hiking area for decades to come.

Greater comfort and faster on the slopes

The journey time on the new lift is reduced to a swift seven minutes from the valley station to the mountain station. The new Schartenkogel lift includes a new valley station in the area of the old Kalte Kuchl lift valley station, which also adds back a kilometre of piste (the “Kalte Kuchl run”), which was highly regarded in the past.

Facts and figures on the construction of the new Schartenkogel lift

The investment for the new building amounts to approximately 13.5 million; the tourism board is contributing around 2.7 million euros towards the new building. The investment is a genuine commitment to the region.
