Long-distance walking route. Via Alpina – Red Route
The Via Alpina is a 5,000 km long long-distance hiking trail comprising 342 day stages that runs through eight countries in the Alpine arc. This long-distance trail can be tackled in various ways and is therefore colour-coded. The Red Route, comprising 161 stages, is a connecting route between the eight Alpine countries. It crosses the main Alpine ridge several times to link Trieste with Monaco via Tyrol, Bavaria and Liechtenstein.
As they walk, visitors can appreciate the scale of the Alps as Europe’s largest natural area – particularly within the numerous nature reserves and national parks – and discover the diversity of the fauna, flora and landscapes. The Red Trail is also a trail of languages and bears witness to the historical role of the Alpine passes as the most important trade routes.
Here we present the stages that pass through Tyrol and the Hall-Wattens region. There are two different routes: one heading south from the Inn Valley and one heading north from the Inn Valley. There is no luggage transport service for the stages in our region!
