Winter hiking blog. Glungezer Winter Forest Trail
A winter landscape straight out of a fairy tale – that’s what you’ll find on the Glungezer Winter Forest Trail.
Have you heard of the new premium winter walking trail yet? It starts near the Alpengasthof Halsmarter and the midway station of the new Glungezerbahn cable car. This means you can comfortably ‘take the cable car up’ almost right to the start, saving yourself a strenuous climb. The Glungezer Winter Forest Trail itself is almost flat – at 1,600 metres above sea level.
Time and again, there are impressive views from here of the Voldertal valley, the Inn Valley and the snow-covered Volderberg.

Passing spruce, larch and fir trees, you reach the turning point after about one and a half kilometres. From there, you follow the same path back to the starting point.
A wonderful excursion into winter’s natural landscape! The wonderfully clear air and the pleasant silence are interrupted only by the crunch of the snow and the murmur of a nearby mountain stream.
