Natural swimming lake. Achensee

Lake Achensee lies between the Karwendel Mountains and the Brandenberg Alps and is often referred to as the ‘Sea of the Tyroleans’ due to its excellent conditions for surfing, kitesurfing and sailing. Visitors seeking relaxation will be delighted by the well-maintained lido facilities in Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau. For families, the gently sloping southern shore at Buchau is ideal: here, children can splash about safely in the shallow water, which warms to up to 22 degrees Celsius in summer.

As with any mountain lake, the water temperature in the Achensee is otherwise rather refreshing; in summer, it usually hovers between twenty and twenty-two degrees near the shore. During the traditional New Year’s Eve swim, it is correspondingly lower. The Achensee boasts excellent water quality and is also very popular with divers, with visibility reaching up to ten metres. You can see even further across the water whilst out on a pedal boat, an electric boat or one of the large Achensee cruise ships.

From the bathing beaches, you always have a view of the magnificent natural surroundings of the ‘Sport & Vitalpark Achensee’ and can start planning your next outing. Beautiful, well-maintained alpine pastures and other fantastic hiking destinations can be reached via 500 kilometres of varied hiking trails or by taking the summer mountain railways up to Rofan (Maurach) and Karwendel (Pertisau). For those who prefer to stay close to the water whilst hiking: romantic lakeside promenades and walking trails lead all the way round Lake Achensee.
