WM Salatfeld

World Championships vegetable field welcomes cycling enthusiasts

WM Salatfeld Hall Wattens Absam

60,000 heads of salad along the Dörferstrasse from Absam to Thaur greet the sportsmen and women and fans of the UCI Road World Championships 2018. The salad was planted by farmers from Thaur who take care of Tyrol’s largest vegetable gardens between the villages of Absam, Hall in Tirol and Thaur.

A wide selection of radishes, carrots, cabbage, leek, herbs, asparagus and lettuce grows in the fields. The vegetables are produce of the ‘North Tyrol Vegetable Genussregion’. The 5,500-square-metre field with a message of greeting to all cycle enthusiasts consists of heads of green lettuce and dark red ‘lollo rosso’ lettuce. After the Cycle World Championships the lettuce will be used to conjure up deliciously crispy salads, for the region also attaches great importance to healthy culinary delights.
