Alpine trekking - Option 1

Absam - Hall - Tulfes – the Glungezer mountain hut - Rosenjoch - Naviser Jöchl – Lizumer mountain hut

After passing through Absam, the well-known place of pilgrimage, and Hall's fine old town, you reach Tulfes. From there, take it easy by using the Glungezer lift to reach the mountain station near the Tulfeinalm.

On the Glungezer, in summer and winter, there are a wide variety of uphill and downhill choices:
  • The Stone Pine Path
  • The Stone Pine Path
  • Sheperd hut
Tour A

On the Stone Pine Path (Zirbenweg), after a short time you will reach the Viggarspitze. And from there the path continues to the Glungezer mountain hut at 2,610m.
The 7-km long Stone Pine Path was created in 1969 and links up the Patscherkofel lift's mountain station and the Glungezer lift mountain station. The gently undulating path - without any major height differences - follows the tree line at over 2,000m above sea level. This is a high-altitude nature trail and walkers will find information panels providing background on the forest and the wild animals that live in these often harsh conditions. Throughout the whole walk, there is a fine view over the floor of the Inn valley against the stunning backdrop of the Karwendel range opposite.

Easy climbing trail

This easy climbing trail, with one short ascent, is very popular. It begins at the Schaferhütte near the Tulfein Jöchl and follows the ridge above the Frauental to the Sonnenspitze near the Glungezer mountain hut. The path to the start of the main climb is well signposted and passes boulders, cuts through crevices, past caves to the next ridge, where surefootedness is required. Then come traverses, short descents and more climbs.
The summit of the Glungezer is now tantalisingly close.
The word Glungezer refers to the "gurgling" (glucksend in German) meltwater flowing beneath rocks.
  • Via Ferrata
  • Glungezer Summit
Although it depends on the weather and conditions underfoot, after reaching the Glungezer mountain hut hillwalkers can descend into the Viggartal (valley) to the Seegrube, a magical place. Awaiting you there are several smallish lakes and an inscribed monolith on to which a series of symbols, of unknown age and origin, have been carved. The shrill whistling of the marmots will accompany you back to the hut. Before long you will soon be able to detect the aroma of the delicious house specialities. Relax after a tiring day by enjoying a convivial mountain hut evening.

The summit of the Sonnenspitze, the ideal place to see the sun rise the next morning, is only 15 minutes away from the Glungezer mountain hut
Follow the Glungezer ridge via a number of smaller peaks towards the Rosenjoch. Near the Rosenjoch summit, follow waymarking along an exposed passage to the Grünbergspitze. Continue on via the Grafmartspitze to the Naviser Jöchl. Take a series of zigzags through the green mountain pasture to reach the Mölsjoch. After Klamm Joch, you will finally reach the Lizumer mountain hut.
