Lake Achensee is situated between the Karwendel Mountains and the Brandenberg Alps and is often referred to as the "Sea of the Tyroleans" because of its excellent suitability for surfing, kite surfing and sailing. Bathers looking for relaxation are pleased about well-kept lidos in Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau. The shallow southern shore in the Buchau is ideal for families: here the children can splash around safely in the shallow water, which can reach temperatures of up to 22 degrees Celsius in summer.
As with any mountain lake, the water temperature in Lake Achensee is otherwise rather refreshing; in summer it usually settles between twenty and twenty-two degrees Celsius near the shore. For the traditional New Year's swim it is correspondingly lower. The Achensee has excellent water quality and is also very popular with divers, visibility ranges up to ten metres. You can see even further afloat by taking a trip on a pedal boat, electric boat or one of the large Achensee ships.
From the bathing beaches you always have the wonderful nature of the "Sport & Vitalpark Achensee" in mind and can already plan your next excursion. Wonderful alpine pastures and many other beautiful hiking destinations can be reached on 500 kilometres of varied hiking trails or with the summer mountain railways on Rofan (Maurach) and Karwendel (Pertisau). For those who prefer to stay close to the water when hiking: Romantic lakeside promenades and footpaths lead around the Achensee.
